Cambridge, ON (Nov. 8, 2007) – Cambridge Memorial Hospital President & CEO Julia Dumanian has been recognized by her peers as a “turnaround leader” in Canada’s healthcare industry.
In its national ranking of people whose leadership and innovation have made a difference in the delivery of healthcare in Canada, Ms. Dumanian has captured the national title for hospital leadership.
“This is truly an honour for me and the women and men of Cambridge Memorial Hospital who work every day to meet the complex needs of a rapidly growing population,” Ms. Dumanian says of the Canadian Healthcare Manager award.
Nominated by their colleagues and peers in the industry, the award winners are selected by a distinguished panel of judges, the publication states in its October 2007 edition.
Canadian Healthcare Manager is the management magazine for executives in Canada’s health communities and is published by Rogers Publishing Limited, a division of Rogers Media Inc. Editor Simon Hally says the annual “Who’s Who in Healthcare Awards” were established in 1999 and recognize winners in four categories: Hospital leadership; eHealth leadership; Leadership in patient safety; and Healthcare collaboration.
Ms. Dumanian’s “outstanding contribution to Canada’s healthcare system” made her the industry’s choice for the 2007 award in hospital leadership, he says.
“As a direct result of Dumanian’s efforts, the hospital has become a provincially recognized leader in wait-time reduction for hip replacement, knee replacement, cataract and breast-cancer surgeries,” the magazine writes in its feature article.
For her part, Ms. Dumanian says the national title speaks to her role as the “chief relationship officer”, broadcasting the hospital’s vision and mission to patients, donors and others through numerous public-speaking engagements.
“Leadership is about passion,” she says. “You have to love what you do in order to do it well, and in order to be contagious in your passion – because your teams at all levels respond to that.”
Ms. Dumanian looks to the recently announced $39.1 million expansion at CMH as an example of the combined efforts of her team to be the best community hospital it can and one worth fighting for on behalf of the residents of Cambridge and North Dumfries.
John K. Bell, Chair of the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Board of Governors, says the national recognition for Ms. Dumanian is a tremendous boost to a leader of an organization that is emerging as one of Canada’s foremost community hospitals.
