| Hemet and Menifee LVNS Advance to Become Registered Nurses |

Fifteen licensed vocational nurses will advance to become registered nurses this month thanks to a strategic educational partnership between Valley Health System and Mt. San Jacinto College known as the Healthy Community Forum (HCF).
“VHS is pleased to support the continued advancement of our nursing professionals,” stated Joel M. Bergenfeld, Interim Chief Executive Officer. “Our investment in our people benefits our communities by increasing the number of registered nurses serving our patients in Hemet and Menifee.”
The Healthy Community Forum (HCF) was established in 2005 with a grant under the Governor’s Nurse Education Initiative. The partnership aimed to increase the number of professional nurses working in the Riverside County region and California by expanding the enrollment capacity of the existing Associate Degree Nursing Program (ADN) at MSJC by 120 additional students over a 5-year grant period. The program operated on a non-traditional schedule (evenings and weekends) to provide additional clinical sites for the students participating in the program. VHS provided classroom space, clinical sites, work study incentives for employees engaged in the program, supplies for onsite classes, and usage of hospital equipment needed for classroom demonstration and practice. The hospitals also sponsored the nursing candidates and pledged to hire all licensed participants who successfully completed the Nursing Program.
Eleven employees at Hemet Valley Medical Center and four employees from Menifee Valley Medical Center will graduate with their ADN during ceremonies to be held at MSJC this month. This brings the total of nursing grant employees sponsored by VHS to 91 over the 5 year period; many of whom remain employed and serving the patients of the Hemet, San Jacinto, and Menifee valleys.
