History Of Brownwood Regional Med Ctr
On August 20, 1969, Brownwood Community Hospital opened for patient care under the direction of the Brown County Hospital Authority. In 1974, new additions were made to the Lab and Business Office. In 1983, additions to the ER and HIM were completed, as was the addition of two Surgical Suites, an enlarged Radiology Department, and a new CT Scan. The Watson Imaging Center/MRI Suite was completed in 1991, and renovations were made to the Obstetrics and Womens Services Area. In 1992, the Outpatient and Administrative Offices were built. The James B.N. Walker Cancer Center and a Medical Office Building were added in 1994. Renovations in 2002 included an expanded Emergency Department, centralized medical records, a more modern facility entrance, and better patient privacy for the admissions process.
In 2004 renovations were completed in the Surgery Suites, a state-of the-art ICU was added and new Respiratory Therapy Department. In 2006, the hospital added an off-site Rehab & Fitness Zone. Most recently, The Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine Center was opened in 2007, and an Express Admissions Unit was added to our hospital services the same year.
