Wharfedale Hospital is one of the newest buildings in the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, providing a modern, purpose-built environment where excellent standards of patient care are delivered.
Led by the hospital’s Matron, Zoe Kirk, staff who work at the hospital have a passionate attachment to it and a personal commitment to providing the best possible care to the local community. They pride themselves on their friendly, patient-centred service.
The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is committed to developing the role of Wharfedale Hospital and increasing the numbers of patients who use it. There has been a drive to bring additional services into the building where those can be provided closer to people’s homes, to avoid local residents having to travel to access services which can be safely delivered on site.
Recent examples of this include a local chemotherapy service added in 2009 and plans to develop breast screening services at the hospital during 2010.
Strong community links are in place with the proud market town of Otley, where the hospital is located, as well as with neighbouring communities such as Guiseley, Rawdon, Yeadon, Burley and Pool, all of whom feel a strong attachment to “The Wharfedale”.
While the current hospital is ultra-modern, it is the successor to a well-loved former hospital with roots going back more than a century. The spirit of the old hospital, with its strong track record of providing healthcare to generations of local people, remains true to this day in its new surroundings.
