About Southport and Formby District General Hospital
The elegant seaside town of Southport is situated on the North West Coast approximately twenty miles north of Liverpool, fifteen miles south of Preston with Manchester forty five miles inland.
The residential areas of Freshfield & Formby lie seven miles south of Southport with the villages Tarleton, Banks and Hesketh Bank three to five miles north of the town. The population of Southport & Formby together is approximately 120,000.
The outlying area of green belt is made up of rich arable farming and market gardening. Large industry is at a minimum in the immediate area. Southport is a Victorian town, which boasts one of the finest shopping streets in the country, Lord street. The town is also famous for its golf courses - nine in all, including the internationally famous Royal Birkdale.
