The positive approach
While we inevitably spend much of our time dealing with illness, we lay great stress on prevention and on improving your health. We aim to help to develop a healthy community and have fostered the development of easily accessible exercise schemes such as Health Walks, HealthCycling and the Green Gym. These initiatives have won a national reputation. We actively work with local organisations to help run OnYourBike, an annual charity cycle ride.
The Health Centre was opened in 1970 and has grown since. Located in a semi-rural area, we look after a population of some 8,400 patients within a six-mile radius extending into the northern suburbs of Reading and west of Henley-on-Thames. We dispense medicines to about a third of our patients (eligible because they live more than a mile from the local pharmacy 'as the crow flies').
