Surrey, B.C. – A company with operations on the five continents is supporting expansion of Surrey Memorial Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit by purchasing a piece of high-tech equipment for premature babies.
Bouygues Building Canada, an affiliate of Bouygues Construction, has made a $64,000 donation to Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation to buy a full-featured isolette (neonatal bed). Currently, Bouygues Building Canada is involved in the design and construction of the Surrey Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre, which is scheduled to open in 2011.
The company’s gift comes as Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH) expands its neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and becomes Fraser Health’s designated site for the care of the most premature and sickest (‘level 3’) newborns, as well as high-risk pregnant women.
The hospital’s current neonatal intensive care unit will gradually grow from 20 to 32 beds over a two-month period beginning in mid-February. This will be the first step in building a larger 48-bed regional NICU in SMH’s new critical care tower, expected to open in 2014.
“Bouygues Building Canada is demonstrating its willingness to give back to the community,” says Foundation Chair Jacy Wingson. “We heard about this gift just days before Christmas, which made the holidays that much better.”
Established in 1992, Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation has raised more than $50 million to purchase medical equipment, fund innovative programs, and support training and research.
