Annual Irish Jersey Raffle raises more than $15,000 for Regional Hospital Foundation |
Date : - 11/03/2010 |
During the last home game of the regular season, the
Screaming Eagles sported green Irish jerseys to raise funds for the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation. Fans showed their support for the 4th Annual Jersey Raffle and purchased more than $15,000 in raffle tickets to win one of 24 custom Irish Jerseys worn by the players during the game.
“The Screaming Eagles organization and fans are amazing,” says Barbara Stead-Coyle, CEO of the Regional Hospital Foundation. “Since this event began three years ago, more than $56,700 has been raised for our Hospital.”
The jerseys, in memory of past president and shareholder Greg Lynch, are sponsored by Cape Breton Beverages, S & M Trucking and Ron May Auto Group. “The work that the Hospital Foundation does touches the lives of so many in our Cape Breton community, especially in time of most need. Greg loved the Eagles and he was a big supporter of the
Hospital Foundation. We are pleased to partner with the Screaming Eagles to give something back to our community and fans in his memory.”
The game kicked-off with a puck drop by five year old Cameron Sollazzo, who donated his fourth birthday money to the Cancer Patient Care Fund in honor of his grandfather; wife and son of Mr. Greg Lynch, Maureen and Bob Lynch; and CEO of the Hospital Foundation, Barbara Stead-Coyle.
A special thank you also goes out to the volunteers who sold the raffle tickets at the game. “We had a number of students from the Sydney Academy IB Program and a few staff from the Cape Breton Cancer Centre and Casino Nova Scotia,” says Stead-Coyle.
Proceeds from the raffle will be designated to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre Patient Care Fund. This fund helps offset the financial difficulties related cancer by covering the cost of prescriptions, medical travel and other financial concerns for cancer patients. Since 1991, the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation in partnership with the
community has raised more than $12M to purchase medical equipment that has dramatically reduced wait times and provided an increased menu of services – closer to home.
