About Muljibhai Patel Urological Hospital
MPUH is one of its kind in Asia - the first hospital in the country devoted entirely to Nephrology and Urology, and awarded with the ISO-9001: 2008 Certificate, certifying our quality management system for design, development and delivery of clinical services for Urology & Nephrology - including Kidney Transplantation to global standards.
We were able to meet the high cost of ultramodern equipment and other infrastructure, thanks to philanthropic gestures from society and the Trustees of the hospital. Besides investment in modern technology, the donations so received are also used towards rendering services to those patients who cannot afford the cost of treatment. The cost of ‘free treatment’ we have rendered so far exceeds Rs.10 crores.
Keeping the above in mind, it is our endeavour to provide the best possible medical care in our chosen field at affordable price. We started our journey in 1978 by imparting Health Services. Over the years, we have added Research & Development and Post Graduate Education in the field of Urology & Nephrology - including Kidney Transplantation. The Jayaramdas Patel Academic Centre (JPAC) is considered comparable to the best such facility in the world.
The hospital has the infrastructure to support 140 beds divided into the categories of general ward, semi-special rooms, special rooms and a VIP suite. These are well-ventilated with proper sanitation facilities and well-trained support staff. There are six Operation Theatres including two separate theatres for renal transplants. These theatres are fully equipped for open, endoscopic and robotic-assisted procedures.
There are ‘recovery’ and ‘post-operative’ rooms fully equipped with monitoring devices for critical care. There is a medical intensive care especially for cardio-respiratory supportive equipment, facility for peritoneal dialysis, and central monitoring supported by a dedicated and trained staff.

1978, March 20th
Shri. N.Sanjiv Reddy, President of India, inaugurated the hospital.
1980
First Kidney Transplant Operation performed.
1981
Received approval from Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi for fully exempting donations to our institution from payment of income tax U/s.35(1)(ii).
Urodynamics Laboratory started functioning.
1984
Muljibhai Patel Society for Research in Nephro-Urology was formed and approved by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Govt. of India.
Donations made to this Society qualify for 125% exemption U/s.35(1)(ii) of the Income Tax Act,1961.
1985
Started Department of Endourology for treating kidney stones through Endoscopic Procedures for the first time in the country.
Introduced Ureteroscopy for the first time in the country.
1989
Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, Hon. Vice President of India, inaugurated the new building and Shri. Haribhai Desai Lithotriptor Centre.
Acquired Lithotriptor and Laser for the treatment of stone.
Hosted 23rd Annual Conference of Urological Society of India (USICON'89). Also conducted a National Workshop on Ureteroscopy.

1992
Govt. of Gujarat recognized our institution by granting reimbursement to its employees for treatment received at the hospital.
Hosted the 5th Conference of the Indian Society of Organ Transplantation (ISOT'92).
1993
Received approval from the National Board of Examination, New Delhi, to conduct Teaching Programmes for Diplomate in Nephrology and Urology.
Prostate Cancer Detection Programme started.
24 hours Medical Store started functioning.
Biochemistry section of our Laboratory fully automated.
Sterilization Department automated.
1994
Conducted Endourology Instruction Course.
Started Department of Andrology for treating male infertility and sexual impotency.
1995
Acquired state-of-the-art equipment for the treatment of prostate known as Transurethral Needle Ablation (TUNA) of Prostate.
Organised a workshop on TUNA as a part of Continuing Medical Education.
Hosted the Annual Conference of West Zone Chapter of Indian Society of Nephrology successfully.
Started Angioplasty Procedure in Renovascular Hypertension.
1996
Hosted the Conference on Male Infertility & Sexual Impotence hosted successfully.
Nursing update arranged at our institution.
Symposium on "Medicine Update Hypertension" held at our institution.
1997
Our department of Nephrology has been selected as "Sister Renal Centre" by the Department of Nephrology of Arkansas University, U.S.A.
1998
Department of Paediatric Urology started functioning.

1999
Laproscopic Donor Nephrectomy was performed in this institute for the first time in India.
Animal Laboratory started functioning.
ISO 9001 accorded to the institution, which is the first in the country for this recognition.
