1989 saw the formation of the Bruce Peninsula Health Services Foundation Committee for the purpose of serving the people of the Bruce by linking the communities' financial capabilities with the best possible care provided through the Wiarton and Lion's Head Hospitals and the Tobermory Clinic.
On September 25, 1997, to assure funds raised locally would be used locally, the Foundation was incorporated as an independent entity governed by a Board of Directors of 9 people representing all areas of the Peninsula.
In 2008 Bruce Peninsula Health Services Foundation Board invited healthcare groups from Sauble Beach, Wiarton, Lion's Head and Tobermory to meet with our Board of Directors and staff to provide an overview of their operations and to help us determine the working relationship between these groups and our Foundation. Thus, the new mission statement of Bruce Peninsula Health Services Foundation was changed to be more inclusive and now reads "to assist in meeting the health care needs of the people of the Bruce Peninsula area".
The Provincial Ministry of Health does not provide all the funding required by today's hospitals for up-to-date technology and facilities. The funds must therefore come from the people who use the services.
Our Foundation supprts two of Grey Bruce Health Services Hospitals - Lion's Head and Wiarton, as well as two Family Health Teams - Tobermory and Sauble Beach.
