** Background **
In February 1995, the Peninsulas Health Care Corporation (PHCC) Board of Trustees was formed to administer health care institutions on the Bonavista Peninsula, the Burin Peninsula and the Clarenville area. In January 1996, the Peninsulas Health Care Corporation assumed responsibility for the delivery of institutional health services in the region.
PHCC services a population of 57,000 residents throughout 161 communities. The Corporation has an annual budget of approximately $60 million and has over 1,000 employees. The organization has been received a three-year accreditation from the Canadian Council of Health Services Accreditation in 1998 and in 2001.
